"After my training I am now sleeping better than I ever have, and I am happy to say that my irritability / anger has decreased significantly. The anxiety I previously experienced is now in my control, meaning that I understand my own frustrations and can take effective measures to resolve issues, minimizing stress and anxiety. The best part of the technology is that I never had to mention a thing about my combat experiences as this is not a "talk" solution. I am truly thankful to BST for all the relief this training has brought to me and my family."

- SGT. D.F., U.S. Army 10th MTN. Div. Purple Heart Recipient

This page addresses the issue of Post Traumatic Stress and the American soldier.  It is unfathomable to ask sons and daughters and young friends and neighbors to fill the ranks as soldiers on behalf of the United States of America and not have a ready plan available to decompress these individuals when they return from war.  For those who have served in the many variations of warfare, it is my wish to offer a method of returning these individuals to society; those who have given so much for their country.

In a recent conversation with one of the Veterans groups in Los Angeles, I was dumbfounded to discover that suicide among veterans exceeds the rate that soldiers die in Afghanistan and Iraq.  And with a realization that a large portion of the homeless are veterans, it is my wish to introduce Brain State Technologies (BST) to this community.

It is important to note that BST does not diagnose illness nor specifically address symptomology.  Frankly, we address learning disabilities, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, health issues and the many variations of addiction and substance abuse the same way we would address PTSD or any other disorder.  Simply, we begin with a brain map (assessment) and measure the imbalances between the hemispheres, pairs of lobes, etc., and then administer exercises to balance and

harmonize the brain.   As the brain becomes balanced and harmonized, the client's capacity to make sound and rational choices improves immeasurably.  Life becomes easier, decision making becomes more available and the ability to manage one's life becomes much more succinct.  The body and nervous system becomes something one can once again rely on.

With no requirement to "know the problem," "hear the story" or work with clients from the perspective of the symptomology, we are having marvelous results by simply balancing and harmonizing the brain of those wishing to improve their lives.  What does this look like?  Imagine the two hemispheres of the brain out of balance with each other; similar said, imagine the differing pairs of lobes of the brain (frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal) out of sync (frequency) with each other; lobes that otherwise should be balanced and coherent and communicating with each other, instead unable to properly handle information and do their job.  But worse, imagine the resultant noise and static when pairs of lobe are out of sync.  The more out of balance, the more static and noise, thus the difficulties veterans face and the cause of the variations of self-medicating.

Imagine the brain (not the personality or the mind - but the brain itself) given exercises to create coherence between the lobes and hemispheres.  And to do the exercises, the brain has to adjust itself to accomplish the task.  In other words, for the exercise to occur, the brain must bring the pairs of lobes into sync with each other.  Similar to defragging a hard drive, the client notices results very quickly.

Recently, in conversation with John Henry Parker, founder of Veterans and Families and the Warrior Transition Project, he states that the results are "pretty staggering every time."  He says vets get a noticeable shift in 10 – 12 sessions.  He says that by 3-4 sessions vets are sleeping better and that within 6 – 8 sessions there occurs a rapid diminishment in their hyper-vigilance/hyper-paranoia and "constant and relentless obtrusive thoughts."  John Henry Parker says eliminating or dramatically reducing these two elements of PTSD are very helpful to the vet and their circle of support.

The exercises, a product of the software's diagnostic capacity to read the brain map and establish protocols (exercises), allows the client to work his/her way back to normalcy.  Interestingly, normal is not determined by the technician or BST, but the brain itself.  It is in the capacity of the brain to find its own equilibrium that the success of this technology becomes available.  Only the brain dictates the end results.  With a direct experience, the brain establishes its own homeostasis, establishes its own balance and establishes its own healing and peace.

The brain balances and harmonizes itself because it can "see" its results through a neurofeedback loop.  After all, the brain is a pretty smart organ with billions of neurons and a survival mechanism second to none.  Balancing the brain is done by bypassing the mind, the personality and the technician's ideas of how this should occur.  Clients can rely on the ancient survival mechanism of the brain in partnership with the software to bring itself back to balance.  All that is required is intention and a willingness to allow the brain to find its own homeostasis.

This page is dedicated to those who inadvertently bring the trauma of combat home with them.  It is my deepest wish that this technology becomes readily available to all who wish to live a balanced and harmonious life.  If there are questions, please contact me.

Brain State Technologies and the affiliate offices have participated in the Warrior Transition Project (WTP) over the past year sponsored by Veterans and Families and John Henry Parker. As a result of the positive feedback from veterans, BST is applying for a grant from the United States Department of the Army. The grant will allow BST to conduct a rigorous clinical demonstration over a four year period in the use of Brain State Conditioning™ as an alternative and complementary modality for assisting the healing process of combat-experienced veterans. The investigation will specifically target those suffering from PTSD, symptoms of PTSD, substance abuse, and/or anger management.

This program should become available in 2009 through the affiliate offices of BST.  In the meantime, if you wish to know more about this technology or obtain sessions for yourself, please contact:

Statement from Veterans and Families (sponsor of the Warrior Transition Project)

After four years of meticulous research, Veterans and Families found a ground-breaking solution called Brain State Conditioning.  Developed by an American company, Brain State Technologies,  Brain State Conditioning is an advanced neuro-training (brain training) system based on the science of neurofeedback, that balances and smoothes neuro-pathways (called neuronets) that form in the brain during exposure to trauma.   It has had an 85% success rate in significantly reducing and/or completely eliminating the symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, addiction and depression for more than five thousand people in less than four years.

Robert Scaer, M.D., noted author, leading neurologist, and Brain State Technologies Clinical Advisor, explains what happens in the brain during traumatic events.  If the brain and body have been conditioned to react to life threats, the brain develops neuronets that begin to perceive threats in situations where none exist.  This condition creates “hyper vigilance” or “hyper paranoia” and is a very necessary state of mind when in a combat environment.  The brain does this for its own survival, because this is the brain’s main function – survival of the organism.  While counseling and talk therapy can be of some help - it often does not go all the way, and it takes an exceptionally long time, years and decades, for healing to take hold or become permanent.   Moreover, many veterans are reluctant to seek counseling for fear of detrimental information being placed in their medical files that could later be used to deny them benefits or promotions.

Brain State Conditioning is not only extremely effective, it is fast and does not require talking or self disclosure.   It is an appropriate technology for the returning Iraq and Afghanistan younger generation of today – all born in a digital age. There have been enormous neuro-scientific discoveries in the past decade, and science has known for some time that post traumatic stress is not a psychological problem - it is a brain imbalance that impacts the body.  This is why Brain State Conditioning is so effective.  It goes to the root of the problem and helps the brain to train itself back to a balanced harmonized state resulting in permanent relief.

Help with PTSD
“From the initial assessment to the final session, your staff of trainers and administrative personnel showed a refreshing professionalism, punctuality, and positivism. All of this served to create a space where I felt safe letting go of some deeply held tension. The seizures in my hand reminded me of the tense moments of flying my A-10 attack jet during air refueling, weather formation flights, and sketchy surface attack and close air” support” missions throughout South Korea, Arizona, and Alaska. But, there was clearly a lot more stored tension than just that incurred through my military service. The feedback I received from the BST staff and the BSC equipment has given me clear benchmarks for opening and connecting with a space of rejuvenation, relaxation, and release. Your team at BST and this process of BSC put effective tools for “letting go” into my hands. You offered this experience to me as a veteran service-member, but I must thank you as a human being. I can’t express enough, my gratitude for your hospitality, encouragement, generosity, and attention to detail!”

"I served two tours as a Squad Leader and combat infantryman in Afghanistan and was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder upon returning home.  After two years of intensive group and individual counseling, I was still experiencing many symptoms of the disorder; mainly lack of sleep, irritability and a high level of anxiety.    After training with Brain State Conditioning I am now sleeping better than I ever have, and I am happy to say that my irritability/anger has decreased significantly.   The anxiety I previously experienced is now in my control, meaning that I understand my own frustrations and can take effective measures to resolve issues, minimizing stress and anxiety.  The best part of this technology is that I never had to mention a thing about my combat experiences as this is not a not a “talk therapy” solution.   I am currently taking a full course load at Syracuse University and maintaining my family life with a great deal of enjoyment and ease.    I am truly thankful to this project for all the relief this training has brought to me and my family.   Thanks Again"

“After just three days of sessions I am feeling a sense of well being that is becoming absent of worry.  The frequency of intrusive thoughts are diminishing and I am feeling a sense of hope that I have finally discovered a release valve for my compressed way of being.  Holding back a tsunami of pent up energy on a constant and regular basis has consumed a great deal of my energy for my entire life.  The Marines provided an avenue to channel this energy (much like the Incredible Hulk, you are able to get out of control but deep down, you kind of like it) but when you have to bottle it up upon returning to civilian life it just steals precious moments that you just can’t get back.  I have invested over two decades in the personal development field and have learned many valuable coping skills of breathing and reforming my thoughts in order to be in the present moment.  However, I have experienced great difficulty maintaining this way of being.  I get relaxed and centered and then my driven thought process would distract me.  That is up until the last few days.  Thank you for leading this exploration into our human potential.”
