The Core of Brain Training Copyright J.Hamilton 2008
There are several aspects to brain training.
Well, if this is the case, you may ask, why is the brain out of balance in the first place? The brain is out of balance because of an increasing overload of information. As our society becomes more complex, and frankly more dysfunctional, the brain moves into overload. Coupled with the mind, a repository of learned values and beliefs that filter and sort information – accurate and inaccurate, the brain has a lot going on. In the past, the brain was able to adjust to its ever so slowly evolving environment. And, in the past, humans were regulated by natural rhythms and Nature's cycles. Humanity was attuned to Nature and everything else was secondary. This no longer seems to be the case though there is a resurgence to get back to Nature. "Green," and even recycling, are aspects of this.
With Brain Training, we employ exercise, a mirror (neurofeedback) and a survival mechanism second to none and put it to work. We start with a Brain Map which is a product of measuring the imbalances between the pairs of brain lobes, exercises from a field of protocols established by the software itself, and we let the brain discern its own balance and harmony. After all, who can dispute the brain's power to sort itself out – especially when we bypass the mind and let the brain work directly with itself?
Not so different from the gym or the dance studio or other exercise environment for which the mirror play an important role, we employ mirrors with Brain Training. With the use of neurofeedback, the brain can identify the results of its exercise regime and adjust itself accordingly. Typically though, with neurofeedback, the personality is the recipient of the feedback. In our case, the brain itself is the recipient of the feedback. This is a big distinction.
It is important to understand that the brain gets a great deal of its information through the mind. But the mind is dysfunctional; the mind is reactionary and the mind carries trauma and memories of shortcomings. The mind is the repository of wounds and hurts and the unfairness of life. And, the mind feeds the brain its values. In Brain Training, the brain works directly with itself through the exercises and achieves its own results.
Alcohol Because of the subtleness of our work, of your work, better said, the brain's work, we want to create the most ideal environment possible. There is to be no alcohol use for several days prior to commencing Brain Training and several weeks afterward. If you are in the habit of a glass of wine in the evenings or regularly schedule your day around "happy hour," you will be pleasantly surprised to discover the urge or need or even the idea of a cocktail has reduced itself considerably. Your attachment to alcohol – a major source of self-medicating will radically shift. Take the hint and let your brain give you newfound insight, and relax. It will be easy and it is important to the process of Brain Training to put alcohol aside for a bit. Your life may never be the same.
Recreational Drugs Recreational drugs are similar to alcohol. They interfere with Brain Training. Recreational drugs are variations of self-medicating. We understand self-medicating and wish you to take a break from it while you are helping yourself establish new neural nets and refining your brain and thus your life. By allowing the Brain Training to "set," you will achieve the best "bang for your buck." Additionally, the many variations of self-medicating begin to decline almost immediately. If you have overwhelming urges, please talk with your tech person. There are homeopathic remedies for those with particularly difficult situations. Allow the brain to reach a new stasis.
Energy Work and Chiropractic It is also important to put any sort of energy work, chiropractic, acupuncture, Reiki, etc., aside for this several week period as well. Allow the new neural nets to form and establish themselves. It is as if Brain Training lays down a certain pattern in the brain and energy work lays down its own patterns. Let Brain Training settle in and find and establish its own place in your life. After all, you are on a grand quest to become more. With Brain Training, it becomes easy to put your old habits on hold for several weeks. Give Brain Training a chance.
Protein We also recommend that you consume about 100 grams of supplemental protein every day beginning several days prior to your sessions, throughout the sessions and several weeks afterward. (Approximate formula: about .5 gram per pound of body weight.) Once the value of supplemental protein is discerned, you many decide to continue a protein supplement indefinitely. Two scoops in the morning with water and two scoops in the evening are highly recommended during your Brain Training experience.
As your brain makes adjustments and "works out" like never before, it needs the amino acid building blocks to help build new neural nets. Give the brain what it needs. Treat it like a new friend. The brain is a very important part of your life. Eat a well balanced diet, add supplemental protein and drink plenty of water. I do not recommend protein based on, or partially based on, soy.
Journaling A very important aspect of Brain Training is journaling. Journaling is the documentation of your experiences before, during and after Brain Training. Journaling should be done several days before through several months afterward. It is a good idea to journal for many more months. Not only to continue to document what you learn about yourself as a result of Brain Training, but as an excellent vehicle for getting to know yourself. Journaling is not as powerful as meditation as an inward delving experience, but it is a very powerful experience, none the less. Introspection and a delving within is a powerful aspect of self-growth and a place we all must go, preferably before our dying days. Get to know yourself!
We include a journaling guide. This is for you to take home. Or, you may wish to journal on the computer. Print it out and carry the accumulated tally to your sessions. You will be given an opportunity to review, revise and update your notes before your sessions. You may also wish to use a digital recorder (Olympus WS 311M or similar from Best Buy) and then transcribe what you discover about yourself!
It is important to discern and document your experiences with Brain Training! While for some, it is second nature to discern the subtleties of refining one's nature, for others this is new. Either way, we forget what we learn about ourselves unless we write it down. Make the commitment! It is very important to stop and make notes as you discern differences as you move through your life.
It is common for your friends and family to notice shifts and changes in your life that you may be unaware of. Make that effort to discern what is going on with you. Write it down!
Self-medicating Self-medicating is what we do to attempt to change our state when we are unhappy, agitated, stressed, etc. It is also interesting to note that when people become too successful, or on a roll, so to speak, they will introduce destructive habits to crash their success. Self-medicating is a product of not being able to properly process information. Balancing the brain changes this.
Self-medicating can be defined as an ever widening classification of behaviors that include the use or abuse of alcohol, nicotine, recreational and prescription drugs, sugar, television, the many and various addictions, leaving a TV or radio running in the background, and on and on. Rage, violence, fear-based choices, reactionary patterns and suicides are all variations of self-medicating. Even meditation and exercise are variations of self-medicating. Obviously, some forms of self-medicating can be useful and healthy assuming they do not over used. The healthier and more harmonized the brain, the less the above scenarios have relevance in one's life.
An important aspect of journaling is to discover and document what makes you tick. Ultimately, it is your goal to tick another way – your way, or the way of a balanced brain. Document your variations of self-medicating and include it in your journaling. As you journal, you will see automatic and habitual behaviors become choices and fade away forever. As you come to know yourself, synchronicities and happenstances begin to light your way. Make note of what you discern. Possibly you will temporarily fall back to old habits. Make notes and watch the lack of power they have over you as you realize your mistakes and make new choices.
It is very interesting to balance and harmonize your brain. As you do so, a wealth of information becomes available to you. Make the most of it. Discern it, write it down and discover what makes you tick.
We are here to help you help yourself. We wish for you to contact us if you have problems, questions, discoveries or have friends that may wish to take advantage of what we do.
Please let us know how we can help you and, please let us know what you think! We love to hear from you. We thrive on feedback.. a sort of mirroring you provide to us. Namasté
